First Barry Gay Memorial Walk Attracts a Crowd

Downley Simply Walk was set up by Barry 11 years ago to promote walking as a fun, sociable and healthy pastime.  Up to 70 walkers now enjoy weekly walking with Simply Walk on Mondays and Thursdays in our beautiful countryside.

For the memorial walk we had hoped to see a carpet of daffodils in Hughenden Park but were somewhat thwarted by the recent snow and cold snap.  Nevertheless around 50 walkers and friends joined us for an initially cold and slippery walk in the snow.  But by the time we reached Hughenden Park the sun came out and we enjoyed a really rather lovely walk back up to the village. Several other people joined us back at the Community centre for Coffee and delicious cakes made by our members/ leaders and a few words of gratitude in memory of Barry from Fiona (SW overall coordinator for Buckinghamshire). Thanks to everyone for help, support and contributions.

The proceeds from tea/coffee and cake donations plus a share of Phoenix/Flamingo card sales proceeds resulted in a donation to Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis of around £160 in Barrys memory.

If you were unable to attend the walk but would like to make a donation you can do so via http://www.actionpulmonaryfibrosis.org/

If you would like to join Simply Walk on a future walk please join us at 10am on Mondays or 11am Thursdays at DOSCA
