Monthly Update for June from the Downley and Disraeli Neighbourhood Team.

Hello from the Downley Neighbourhood Team and welcome to the June 2012 edition of the newsletter. The purpose of this monthly update is to provide the local community with updates and/or information regarding issues that were reported to the police and their efforts to try and resolve them.

The Neighbourhood Priorities are:

• Anti Social Behaviour (ASB)
• Speeding
• Parking

Anti Social Behaviour (ASB)

The ASB Hot spots around the Pastures have again had issues of large groups gathering around the Downs Park area causing ASB problems early in the mornings at the weekend. Only one vehicle was damaged around the time of this gathering. Hithercroft Road has had small issues with children playing football and other ball games too close to properties. Can I please ask parents to keep an eye on their children while they play so we don’t have any cases of criminal damage to people’s windows. If residents receive abuse from these children when asking them to move on, please contact 101 and we will come and speak with these children.

The three ASB Hotspots of School Close, Brindley Avenue Shops and Cross Court Shops are still a concern and are regularly patrolled to deter ASB.

Graffiti

I have noticed a rise in the tags and general graffiti within the Hithercroft Road and Garratts way area. If anyone has any information regarding who is tagging these area please contact your neighbourhood team on 101.

Vehicle’s displaying and causing ASB.

With summer finally here problems involving motor cycles on and off roads will no doubt increase with the hot weather. We have had a few incidents within May already. Call 101 whenever these incidents occur. This month we will also be performing ANPR operations within the Downley area.

Speeding

Reports of speeding along the areas of Coates Lane and School Close will be targeted with a Speed Indicator Device or Laser gun. There will an operation in June. Problems of speeding have also been raised along Hithercroft road so we will cover this area too during the operation.

Parking

Parking around the Downley and Disraeli School and Brunel road were identified as areas causing the community some parking issues. However, due to the team patrolling the opening and closing times of the school and advising residents or poorly parked vehicles, there has been a reducing in reported parking issues.  Parking on private roads which are not maintained by the high ways agency cannot be policed by TVP. If however these roads are obstructed we are able to ticket vehicles that are causing the obstruction.

Parking on Grass verges

We would like to inform residents that the grass verges on Hughenden Avenue are enforced by the Wycombe District Council, and police powers do not cover this enforcement. However if vehicles are causing an obstruction we will deal with this robustly.

If anyone is seen to be parking in an illegal manner they may be issued with a £30 Fixed Penalty Ticket and this will take immediate effect.

If you cannot get out of your driveway as a vehicle is blocking it, or if a vehicle is blocking the pavement so a pedestrian cannot pass, or you have any questions about the information leaflets that have been posted through your door please ring our non-emergency number on 101 and report it to Thames Valley Police.

Fake notes

Recently there has been between £200-300 of fake notes being used around the Downley area. Most have been found at the Tesco express. If you find or receive any notes which you suspect to be fake contact us on the 101 number.

Distraction Burglaries

If you get any unexpected callers at your door then do not be afraid to challenge them. Genuine callers will not mind waiting outside whilst you confirm their identity. If the person at your door is from the water board, then take his/her details, and then confirm the information with the company. Do not accept any phone numbers from the person at the door and try and source the number yourself, as the number provided maybe part of the rouse. Vehicle Crime

If you have a catalytic converter on your vehicle then try and park your car in a garage or in a location that restricts access to underneath of your vehicle. You should also try to reverse into a space so that the exhaust isn’t easily accessible. There are a number of security devices on the market to try and combat the thefts. I have looked on the internet and located a couple of websites. The police do not endorse these companies and would recommend that you do your own research before making a purchase.

Scrap Metal Theft

Thames Valley Police is currently in the process of implementing Operation Precious to try and tackle the increase in metal related thefts. The main focus of attention for the police and its partnership agencies will be greater engagement with the scrap metal trade, as reducing the opportunity for a criminal to sell the metal is vital. The various neighbourhood policing teams will be taking the lead in this initiative and will initially identify the number of scrap metal dealers/companies that are on their respective areas. A visit will then be made to the various companies the police will work with them to try and address this matter.

There have also been recent changes in the law which will ban cash payments being made for scrap metal, as they lead to anonymous transactions and poor record keeping within the industry. http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/nagleaflet.pdf

Events

When available the Downley and Disraeli team will make every effort to attend the local community events such as coffee mornings at St James Church and the Pastures wardens’ room.

Weekly Have your say meetings at Tesco Cross Court and Brindley Avenue.

Monthly Have you say meeting in the School Close Library and the next one is on 18th June between 10.00-12.00.

Current Operations/ Projects

Operation Gazump is in relation the increase of ASB in the areas around the Bell and Mast Public House, the Pastures, Tinkers wood Road, Hithercroft Road and surrounding areas by the Disraeli School, which have been highlighted to us as an additional hotspot. We are currently running this operation to target these youths who are involved in ASB and violent crimes.

Clear Car Campaign is where we send vehicle owner’s a letter about their car security if we spot items on display within their car. There have been no offending vehicles.

“Is your Home safe” project is focuses on Burglary hot spots and we go round in the hours of darkness and if property is in darkness, then we put a calling card through your door, reminding you to put your lights on. When we did this project over fifteen properties were in darkness.
“In touch” project allows us to make contact and engage with the vulnerable persons within our community that we are aware of.

Good news

Along with PC Watts and Bedford, we now have a new PC in the ranks of the Downley/Disraeli team. PC Danielle FOY is joining us on patrol for the next four weeks on her attachment to the Neighbourhood team.

Drugs crack closure

Premises have been used for dealing class A drugs and we are applying to have the tenant evicted from this address.
