Community Message - Illegal Fly Tipping

This is a Community Message from the High Wycombewatch office on Wednesday 6th July 2011, on behalf of the Buckinghamshire Waste Partnership.

The illegal dumping of waste is a significant problem in Buckinghamshire.  We are working in partnership with the police to ask residents who witness people fly-tipping to report it and help us stamp out this awful, anti-social crime.  Witness led cases account for over 40% of all convictions in the county.  This has supported the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire to catch offenders, who last year were forced to pay a total of around £80,000 in fines and costs.  To report an incident of fly-tipping please contact the witness hotline number on 0845 330 1856 or download the ‘Transport for Buckinghamshire’ i-phone application.  If possible please take down the vehicle registration details.

It is important to remember that if you are using a trader to dispose of your rubbish you must check they are registered to do so by calling the Environment Agency on 08708 506 506 or visiting www.environment-agency.gov.uk/publicregisters If the waste is later dumped illegally and you have failed to make the necessary check you could be liable.  Any person or business convicted for illegal dumping offences faces a fine of up to £50,000 from magistrates or unlimited fines at Crown Court.
