Police update available for September

September’s monthly update for Downley and Disraeli is brought to you by PCSO C8841 Jennifer WEAVER. PC 6739 Craig DUNCAN, PCSO C6651 David JONES, and myself remain in Downley and Disraeli as your neighbourhood officers.

Neighbourhood Priorities Antisocial Behaviour

The team will be focusing on The Pastures Flats and Wyatt Close as there have been numerous calls of groups of people congregating in stairwells.

Parking

Kestrel Close/Pheasant Drive, Littleworth Road/Coates Lane and Kelvin Close/ Hughenden Avenue are junctions which have received parking warning letters, where the team will continue to monitor and warn residents of any obstructions.

Speeding

Hughenden Avenue, Hithercroft Road, Coates Lane, The Pastures and Plomer Hill have all been highlighted as roads which attract speeding vehicles. We are working alongside the Parish Council who have obtained funding for a Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS) which will be used for traffic monitoring around Downley and Disraeli. Antisocial Behaviour(ASB) This month there have been reports of eggs being thrown at properties on Jubilee Road and Commonside.

Excessive noise during the late hours of the day and into the night has been heard on Hithercroft road, the location of this noise is unclear at the moment, however if anybody has experienced similar issues or knows where the noise is coming from, we would like to know so we can put a stop to it. On Cumbrian Way, young people have been reported to be sitting and talking loudly into the night, this is causing an increasing disturbance to residents, so if you know these individuals, please could you let us know too. A dedicated Antisocial Behaviour car is on duty every night, available into the early hours of the morning.

This neighbourhood initiative allows for incidents like this to be attended and dealt with more effectively.

If you are affected by any antisocial issues, please call 101.

Motorbikes/ Quad bikes

There have been numerous calls this month in relation to the quad bikes and mini motos that are driving dangerously around Downley and Disraeli. We have now secured Downley and Disraeli as a hotspot location for specific policing operations that are concentrating on stopping these vehicles. After trekking through the woods in Downley, we have highlighted a possible route that these vehicles may be using to enter and exit Tinkers Wood. This will now be our first port of call for future incidents.

Theft from Vehicles

This month has seen an increase in Theft from vehicles. A van parked on Cotswold Way has had cards and drivers licences taken from within whilst it was unlocked and a car on Hughenden Avenue has had a wallet taken from it. There has also been an attempt theft of vehicle on Hithercroft Road. If you have seen anything suspicious relating to these thefts, we would like to know about it on 101. A neighbourhood initiative known as Clear Car Campaign is currently ongoing, where vehicles found displaying valuable items will be reported to the owner to make them aware of the dangers of opportunist thieves.

Burglary

This month has had one report of burglary to a property on Pheasant Drive where a messy search has taken place. If you have heard any information relating to this, please call 101. Suspicious activity There have been two separate reports of a suspicious vehicle seen to park on Kestrel Close and School Close and observe houses, paying particular attention to some. The details of this vehicle are unknown, however the Neighbourhood Team will keep an eye out for suspicious vehicles, with a view to stopping and obtaining details from them. Please make sure you are keeping your property safely secured and if you see anything suspicious to report it immediately.

Also, there has been a report of a vehicle fly-tipping on Brindley Avenue at the recycling bins. If anyone is in the vicinity, could they keep an eye out for any similar activity so we can put a stop to this. Speeding PC 6739 Duncan recently conducted a small speeding operation on the major roads in Downley and Disraeli; the statistics from this have ascertained a small percentage of cars travelling at fast speeds.

In light of this information and to further confirm the statistics, a larger scale speeding operation will take place where tickets can also be issued to vehicles that are speeding.
