Downley Common Preservation Society
The Cottage, Downley Common
Originally, Downley Common was managed as wood pasture by a combination of grazing and pollarding. It is this present-day mix of grassland, scrub, trees and water (Mannings Pond) that presents the challenge of maintaining its diversity.
This challenge has been accepted by the DCPS in partnership with Downley Parish Council who undertakes work to protect and enhance the Common both as an amenity for the local residents and to conserve its natural features. The Society is open for all to join (for a modest membership fee) and wishes to involve as many local residents as possible in the the well-being of the Common.
Work parties are held on the first Sunday of every month and member's meetings are held on the first Thursdays of April and October. See the Society's Yearplanner for a list of our typical activities and the Diary for a list of work parties and meetings.
